Who has Spring Break plans? Are you going out of town or staying home and working on a DIY project? Doesn’t the weather just beckon change? It makes you want to redo your house. We know we are all on a budget but there are some low cost ways to spruce up a room. We have some new, beautifully colored accessories that we just received. Think about your current color palette and look at ways to incorporate a new color into your room. You would be surprised how fresh your room would feel by switching one color out for another. An example would be if you have used a lot of red accents, you could switch to the new paprika color. It would give the room the facelift it needed without breaking the bank. If you don’t have any new color ideas, just bring a pillow or fabric in from the room and we would be glad to help you pick a new color to brighten your room. No matter how you spend your Spring Break, enjoy yourself and your family and friends.
Do you enjoy picking out furniture for your home or does it make you tired just thinking about it? Sometimes we feel overwhelmed at the prospect of change, even though the change is for the better. Traditionally, the wife is the one who pushes for and picks out the new furniture, accessories, etc. Lately, we have seen many husbands becoming very hands on when it comes to decorating their homes. These particular wives are not overwhelmed now because the decisions are not up to them. I have a friend who sent her husband in to buy new living room furniture. He came in, we helped him pick out sofas, occasional tables, etc. She didn’t even see it until it was delivered and set up. She LOVED it!!! So we encourage you men to come in with your wives and be a part of the decorating process of your home. (Yes men, we know some of you like to use deer heads as decoration but just keep an open mind to all of the possibilities.)
Have we had a winter season yet? Do you think we are going to get cold weather before winter is over? I see flowers and trees beginning to bloom and I am afraid a cold snap is going to come and ruin the pretty, new blooms. We can’t control the weather but we can control freshening up our houses with spring type things. How about picking a fresh new color to accessorize with or adding a new piece of furniture or two? It is so much fun mixing new fabrics and pieces wiith what you already have in your room. You do not have to break the bank to make your room feel fresh and new. Come in and browse around and see what makes you happy.
As you and your fiancé are deciding on the details of setting up house together, make sure to spend some time perusing decorating books. One of you might love a Country French style while the other might enjoy a more Contemporary feel. Or one may prefer a Traditional style while the other wants a Mission style home. It is okay if the two of you have completely different taste. It is an opportunity to communicate and compromise and will save you from conflicts in the future. Think about how fun it is to be a team in every area of your marriage including decorating your new home. The finished product will mean more when the two know you have worked on it together. Feel free to come in and ask one of our low pressure salespeople to show you the different styles on our floor.
Most major decorating projects begin with painting the walls. And this is where people usually cringe with fear or begin to feel overwhelmed. And this reaction is totally understandable. Selecting a paint color is a huge commitment, and quite expensive whether you choose to do it yourself or have a professional do it for you.
Perhaps these tips can assist on your next venture:
- How Helpful is a Swatch? Wall color appears paler on a small swatch versus on the wall. Color on one wall will take possession of a room. If you paint all four walls; the color reflects back on itself, multiplying the affect. You can’t see this on a swatch, so keep this in mind.
- The Effect Factor – What other colors are present in the room? The furniture and floor, the light… So many things can effect the color of the paint once it’s on the wall; even the colors outdoors. Take this into consideration when choosing a color.
- Sample it out – Most paint companies offer tester size paint in order to give you an idea of how it will look once you paint the wall. Take time to compare colors on the wall. Consider this: the color will be on your wall for a long time (hopefully), so invest as much time possible to ensure it’s a color you can live with.
